Sporting trial takes to hills this weekend
Delighting in the current muddy conditions, competitors in specialist machines will be taking to the grassy slopes of south Shropshire on Sunday for the annual Geoff Taylor Sporting Trial.
The MSA & BTRDA Championship event is being hosted by Hagley Car Club, organisers of speed hill climb events at Loton Park, and is being staged at Brow Farm, Ratlinghope, near Church Stretton, starting at 9am.
Sporting Trials feature purpose-built lightweight machines with very narrow front wheels providing a tight turning circle, with awards being gained for the furthest point reached between marker posts on tight and twisting short uphill sections, the passenger usually having to lean right out of the car to aid traction.
Secretary of the meeting Steve Layton said: "This is a new venue, situated in the picturesque lea of the Long Mynd and offers a mixture of wooded and open grass banks, which should hopefully provide suitably tricky conditions for the competitors to attempt to master.
"Spectators will be made most welcome and parking is available as the venue is a campsite run by local farmer John Sankey, which has hard standing and toilets with hot food and drinks available."
Ludlow pairing Richard Thomas and Sam Miles are entered in their Kincraft machine and long-standing Wolverhampton competitor Julian Fack, pictured, with regular passenger Meg Marrion will be driving a Crossle.
