Decision is due on Shropshire village homes plans

Controversial planning applications for housing in two Shropshire villages are set to be given the go-ahead despite councillors' objections.

Parish councillors have objected to plans for six homes in Selattyn and Shropshire councillors have already indicated they oppose plans for 10 homes in the village of Morda.

But planning officers will advise Shropshire Council's north planning committee tomorrow that both schemes should be approved.

Members of Selattyn and Gobowen Parish Council say the plans for the homes at Gyrn Road in Selattyn, which also include a new access to the village school car park, are outside the development boundary. Nineteen letters of objection were sent in.

However, planning officers have recommended that plans should be given the go-ahead as long as certain conditions are met.

"Despite the objections from the parish council and neighbours on the grounds that the site is outside of the existing development boundary, there must still be a presumption in favour of sustainable development as required by the National Planning Policy Framework," officers say.

Meanwhile a bid to build 10 homes on land off Old Mapsis Way in Morda should also be given the go-ahead despite objections, planning officers have said.

Members of the north planning committee said in December they were minded to refuse the bid, which is outside the village development boundary and contravened policy. But planning officers say that subject to the applicant entering an affordable housing agreement, permission should be granted.

They will be discussed at Shirehall in Shrewsbury at 2pm tomorrow.
