A dog walker made the discovery in a quiet area of Telford.

Detectives sealed off a long stretch of walkway at Hortonwood 60, at its junction with Horton Lane.

Investigations were continuing into the death today, with officers saying they are keeping an open mind.

The body was discovered early on Christmas Eve by a walker who alerted police.

The area was taped off and forensic officers were called in to examine the scene before the body was taken away.

West Mercia Police spokesman Rachel Anstee said: "The body was discovered in a stream in the Horton Lane area at around 9am.

"There are police cordons in place in the area, which is popular with dog walkers.

"We can confirm the body is that of a man."

Police said it was not yet know how long the body had been in the water.

It is not clear if the dead man is from Telford or if his next of kin has been informed. Detectives put out an appeal for anyone with information to contact West Mercia Police. They should call the non emergency 101 line and ask for Telford CID.
