Telford council staff face parking charges

Staff at Telford & Wrekin Council could have to pay for parking at its town centre offices in the future, a new report revealed.

The authority is considering the option of pay and display outside offices Darby House and Addenbrooke House in Telford.

About 1,000 staff work at both sites but it is not known how many drive to work. The authority is "looking at a number of options" and should charges be rolled out, they would not be in place until next year.

Council spokesman Nigel Newman said: "The council has been looking at charging staff for car parking and is investigating a number of options around this.

"We are mindful of the cost of living pressures for our residents and employees, who have had their pay effectively frozen for the last four years at a time when more than 1,100 posts have been taken out of the organisation."
