Jordan Barre, of Carlton Close, Bicton Heath, Shrewsbury, admitted beating William Thorpe when he appeared before Shrewsbury magistrates.

The court heard that Barre assaulted Mr Thorpe during a night out at The Buttermarket on July 14 2013.

He received an 18-month conditional discharge and was ordered to pay £500 compensation to Mr Thorpe, £85 costs and a £15 surcharge.

Mrs Abbie Hill, prosecuting, said: "At about 3.30am Mr Thorpe went to the smoking area of the club and spoke to the defendant, who made it clear he did not like him. Mr Thorpe spoke to a friend, who was also a friend of the defendant, to find out why he did not like him.

"Mr Thorpe was then hit in the head and fell to the ground. He was bleeding from the nose. He was taken to the first aid area of the club and was then taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital where he was found to be suffering from concussion, a bruised nose and jaw and cuts to the face.

"CCTV footage from The Buttermarket shows him being hit twice in an unprovoked attack."

Mr James Morris for Barre said his client was full of remorse following the attack.

"This has been a rude awakening for him," he said.

"There was a lack of premeditation, he did not deliberately target Mr Thorpe.

"He has learned a valuable lesson now."
