Getting set for Telford's new aerial ropes course

Telford's first aerial ropes course is all set to swing into action having been hailed one of the jewels in Telford's crown.

The £200,000 attraction in Telford Town Park, which has created about 11 new jobs, will open to the public on Saturday, October 26.

The high rise obstacle course features a tree trek 12ft off the ground and a high ropes route 30ft up.

Hair-raising challenges include a 100 metre zip wire, a 30ft high Powerfan Descender and a rock climbing wall.

Adrenaline junkies, over eight-years-old will be able to scale the high ropes to get a unique view over the park and there will even be activities for those aged over five.

The exciting attraction was created by a partnership between Telford & Wrekin Council and Closer to the Edge, who operate other sites across the West Midlands.

Councillor Liz Clare, cabinet member for Leisure Services and Culture, said: "The new ropes course is the latest attraction to open in the Town Park which has seen a number of new additions this summer."

She added: "We've made a number of improvements to the park over the summer, including a sensory garden and water play area."

Mel Ellis, of Closer to the Edge, who operate the Telford Town Park ropes course, said: "We are extremely excited about this project. . . the high ropes adventure is one of the first courses in the UK to provide such a wide range of activities for everyone, all ages and abilities."

The new facility will be open Monday to Sunday, from 9.45am until dusk. Monday to Friday, during term time, is bookable only and will cater for schools, corporate events and other group bookings.

Saturday, Sunday and school holidays are on a pay as you go basis.

Prices for the course start at £3.50 and go up to £24.

There will be a Telford Loyalty Card offer of 10 per cent off non-bookable weekend sessions between 9.45am and 11.45am.
