Here comes the bride – on rollerskates

Most brides arrive by horse and carriage or classic car.  But not Katie Sheard, who arrived at her wedding reception on rollerskates, towed by her new husband, Robin Betts, who was on a bike.

Mr Betts' mother Hilary said: "They are very sporty people. They do a lot of mountain biking as well as running and skiing.

"As for the rollerblades, Robin certainly never had any, but I think all that skiing gave Katie the balance so she was able to perform.

"He was cycling down the slope quite fast, we were all saying 'slow down' but she seemed to manage that with aplomb." The couple, who married on September 21 in St Lawrence Church, Little Wenlock, are sure to have had a wedding that none of their guests will forget.

Mrs Betts said: "They organised their own first dance, which quite a lot of couples do but they also organised all the ushers and bridesmaids, I think there was five each, to do the Gangnam Style dance as a flashmob.

"It was brilliant, everybody thought it was hilarious.

"I didn't see it, but apparently they had a quick practice in the car park just before."

And the day after the ceremony, the entire wedding party went for a hike up the Wrekin. Katie and Robin, who are both 30, met on an online dating agency just over a year ago.

Katie is originally from Kenilworth, while Robin and his family are from Little Wenlock, but the pair now live in Llangan in south Wales.

He proposed to her while on holiday in New Zealand – but even the engagement wasn't a normal affair.

Mrs Betts said: "Because of some problems, the engagement ring hadn't arrived from America so he had to carve a wooden one to take with him."
