Wind turbine convoy causes road chaos

Lorries carrying massive wind turbine components caused traffic chaos during rush hour on the Shropshire/Powys border today.

Huge tailbacks were caused on the A483 from Llanymynech, near Oswestry and down to Newtown and the A489 to Caersws.

It is believed the turbine parts were linked with the road traffic order put in place earlier this month to take parts through the county and then to a wind farm development near Aberystwyth, in Ceredigion.

Graham Breeze, travelling on the road at the time, said: "There were two lorries carrying absolutely huge turbine parts with half a dozen police outriders and other police vehicles as well."

When the order was made, parish councillor for Pant and Llanymynech, Dilys Gaskill, said the orders showed the need for a bypass.
