Tractor and Truck Pull Weekend at Dearnford Lake, near Whitchurch

The championship tractor pull at Dearnford Lake, near Whitchurch, which was called off in March because of the bad weather.

Modified tractors and Land Rovers were the highlight of the event, which also included a car boot and collectors fair and the launch of the new Dearnford Lake geo-caching site.

Rob Bebbington, manager at Dearnford, said: "It all went very well. We have more people here on Saturday, which was the main day, and they were pulling until 10.30pm. We had people from all over the country, as far apart as Somerset and Scotland, and it's been a really good weekend."

He said attendance was probably slightly below the 5,000 anticipated, blaming an unsettled weather forecast on Sunday.

He added:"We haven't had the numbers that we would have liked to have but it's been a cracking weekend.

"Everyone that's been has had a whale of a time. We have converted a lot of people I think. We have got another event in September, which will be the national championship tractor pull."
