Shropshire Star

The search is on for Shropshire's Sunday League sensations

Hey, you! We're looking for players who deserve their place in a Shropshire Stars XI football team to reflect the depth and diversity of grass-roots football across the county.

Whether you're a super-fit midfield dynamo, a young turk, a striker who puts the pub into pub football, or a grizzled veteran with your best playing days behind you, drop us a line to get a 'trial' for this very special team.

Don't worry, we won't be expecting you to actually play. It's just a bit of fun, to create a notional side which represents the ordinary folk of all ages and sexes who are involved in the organised football scene in Shropshire, in this 150th anniversary year of the Football Association.

This is not about highly paid premiership stars, or the cream of the semi-professional crop. It's about those who turn out on public parks and fields, come rain or shine, in front of just a handful of pals in the local weekend league, or inter-pub friendly. To catch the eye of our selectors, send or email a photo of you in your team's kit, together with some details of yourself, how long you've been playing, your team and position, and any points of interest from your 'career'.

If your heroics have ever earned you a mention in any match reports, or other newspaper coverage, we'd love to hear about that too.

How to enter

Send your entries to the team manager Toby Neal, Shropshire Star, Ketley, Telford, TF1 5HU, or at tneal@shropshirestar.co.uk by email. Don't forget to include your contact details, so we can get in touch with you if we need to find out more.
