Richard's Spanish night spices up Come Dine With Me in Shropshire
A Spanish menu helped to spice up a Shropshire edition of Come Dine With Me as the cult Channel 4 programme reached the midway point.
LED light salesman Richard Mercer dished up a Spanish feast featuring paella – and radio DJ Paul Shuttleworth embraced the theme by arriving at his host's house dressed in flamboyant Catalan clothing, looking like a panto extra.
Glamorous Zumba teacher Zoe Bailey arrived in a full-length dress and revealed that she'd once been an air stewardess. However, when asked whether she was a member of the mile-high club she pulled a knowing smile and refused to answer . . . before telling the table she wasn't.
Penny did not know what the club was, until Paul whispered into her ear – causing her to grimace.
Richard revealed his eccentric side when he started talking to his langoustines as he fried them in the pan. He then spoke Spanish to his guests – but office worker Josh Sedgley was unimpressed.
Artist Penny Timmis received her main course, paella, in unusual style – she told other guests that she didn't like tripe – even though none had been served.
DJ Paul revealed his secret ambition was to be a bus driver. Host Richard then started a game of 'guess the gadget' giving Josh the chance to tell the table that he had his tongue pierced.
Richard served a raspberry roulade for pudding but his food had failed to wow his guests, who put him in last place with 26.
Paul gave him a seven, Josh scored the evening a six, Penny said seven and Zoe six.
