Teenager Nica Jane Webley, known as Nisha, who lived in Portia Close, Wellington, with her mother and sister, died from a gunshot on December 27 at her uncle's home in Fairfield, Texas, where she was staying.

Assistant Chief of Police William Rogillio said: "The preliminary autopsy came back from the medical examiner's office and ruled a suicide by gunshot."

A judge, named by Mr Rogillio as Theresa Farris, is expected to formally announce the results of the post mortem examination later.

Judge Farris is expected to rule Miss Webley killed herself. Asst Chief Rogillio said police had now completed their inquiries.

Nisha had been 11 days into a three-week stay with her uncle Mike Daniels, his wife Navlet and their son Michael Jr at their home in Fairfield, 80 miles south of Dallas, when she died.

Mr Daniels Jr, 22, had been doing target practice in his yard when the tragedy occurred. Police believe Nisha used a gun owned by her cousin, who had the Glock .45 semi-automatic pistol for his job as a security guard.

Despite paramedics being at her side within two minutes of the 911 call being made at 4.50pm, she was pronounced dead by Ms Farris at East Texas Medical Center Fairfield when she arrived at 5.20pm.

Mr Daniels Sr is the pastor of a local church and the family is well-known in the area.

One of their neighbours said: "I know the Daniels. They're good people and very active in the community.

"A lot of us here in Fairfield have big acreage for our yards. My family target practices in our side yard which is six acres.

"It is very sad indeed that this young woman took her life. My condolences and prayers for her family."
