The 4,500 square ft centre, which is to be called Love Plants, will be based in the grounds of Salop Leisure's headquarters in Emstrey and is scheduled to be opened in early March.

The centre is being developed in association with Derwen Garden Centre and Dingle Nurseries, two very well established businesses in Guilsfield, near Welshpool, which will be supplying the majority of the plants.

Salop Leisure chairman Tony Bywater said there would be a fantastic selection of quality plants on offer at the new specialist centre.

He added: "Love Plants will be run by a team of experienced horticulturists who have fantastic plant knowledge, understand the needs of gardeners and deliver good old-fashioned, friendly customer service.

"It will be one of the most exciting horticultural projects that has been developed in Shrewsbury.

"We are going to stock a fantastic selection of quality plants, including large and specimen varieties.

"This will be a specialist centre where customers can buy top quality plants and receive great advice from knowledgeable staff on a wide range of topics, including garden design."

A centre manager is due to be appointed next month.

Love Plants will take Salop Leisure's investment in the company's headquarters to £10 million over the past six-and-a-half years.
