Residents at a Shropshire nursing home have been horsing about with a very special visitor who paid them an early Christmas visit.

Rupert the horse trotted into The Uplands at Oxon, in Shrewsbury, to help spread a bit of festive cheer with residents.

The 16-year-old horse counts being able to play football among his many talents and enjoyed showing off his skills at the home.

His owner Elaine Whalley, from Telford, said Rupert was an inspirational animal who had a great knack for bringing older people out of their shells.

She has had Rupert for five years and after seeing the enjoyment her grandmother got from spending time with him, Miss Whalley decided to offer a service in which Rupert pays visits to care homes.

And he got into the Christmas spirit for his latest public outing, donning antlers and a red nose to the delight of residents.
