Heart attack theory over Shropshire crash death

A woman in her 60s may have suffered a heart attack before her car crashed at low speed into a tree in the Shropshire countryside, police today said.

The woman, who has not been named, died following the incident on the A488 between Shrewsbury and Bishop’s Castle yesterday morning. Her red Suzuki Jimney left the road in the Hope Valley, between Minsterley and The Gravels, shortly before 11am.

She was treated at the scene before being taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Richard Ewels, a spokesman for West Mercia Police, said an investigation had now been launched into the cause of the incident.

“Police say they are investigating the possibility she suffered an illness, such as a heart attack,” he said. “A post mortem is likely to be held to establish cause of death.”

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Sadly, despite best efforts, she was pronounced dead a short time after arrival.”

Witnesses are urged to contact Shrewsbury police on 101.
