50 jobs could go at frozen food firm

More than 50 jobs could be lost at a frozen food distribution centre in Shropshire, it was claimed today.

The jobs are under threat at Cooltrader’s warehouse on Oswestry’s Maesbury Industrial Estate after the firm was taken over by Heron Foods.

Andrew Errington, Cooltrader’s managing director, said he feared as many as 56 jobs at the Oswestry depot could be lost.

A further 20 jobs could go at the Deeside headquarters.

Mr Errington said: “Cooltrader has been sold to Heron Foods and the people in the warehouse and the head office are being made redundant.”

He said staff were told redundancies could come into effect on September 29.

He said people had been offered jobs by Heron Foods but these would be based near Hull.

No-one at Heron Foods was available for comment.
