Trader facing fraud charges

A tradesman has appeared in court charged with harassing a pensioner into handing over thousands of pounds in cash for roof repairs.

Steven Lock, of Towyn, Abergale, faced 10 trading standards and three fraud charges at Shrewsbury Magistrate Court yesterday.

Lock is accused of making unsolicited visits to the home of an 81-year-old pensioner in Hanwood to carry out roof repairs.

He faces charges of misleading the man and also engaging in an aggressive commercial practice by forcing the pensioner to exchange a cheque for cash at a bank in Shrewsbury.

Lock, 47, did not indicate a plea and magistrates decided they did not have sufficient powers to deal with the case.

A further hearing will take place at Shrewsbury Magistrates on November 9.

Lock was granted unconditional bail.
