Mickey was cheered on by the students as the T53 100m gold medallist watched his race back.

Mickey is studying a gym instructor course at TCAT and gave the students a treat on their lunchbreak – the chance to have their picture taken with him and his gold medal.

Mickey was introduced to the crowd by Dale Smallman, the head of sports at the school, before he was interviewed by principal Janet Ellis.

Mrs Ellis said: "We are so very incredibly proud of Mickey, he is not only an elite athlete but is also a very, very fine young man."

In her speech, Mrs Ellis also told students how lucky they were to have a 'superstar celebrity sportsman' among their ranks.

Mrs Ellis then asked Mickey what the college had done to support him in the run up to both Olympics.

He said: "You gave me the time to go and train and that's the biggest help – time to fit it all in."

The star had entered the room to a standing ovation.
