September 7, 2012 09:00 Pictures from the past - September 7 This week's collection of nostalgia pictures from the pages of the Shropshire Star. 1 / 5 Some older Telford United fans might recognise younger versions of themselves in this shot of the crowd at a match at the Bucks Head. Outside the Bridge Inn at Dorrington in 1959 or 1960, a small crowd seems to be waiting for something. We’re not sure what for, but they are possibly watching the passing hunt. With lots of talk again about winning golds, here is a young Tony Minton of Bridgnorth receiving his golden prize at a sports day many years ago – and you’ll be amazed at what that prize was. Mr Minton says: “Who cares for gold Olympian medals? I got 40 Gold Flake for winning the fast bicycle race at the RGD sports day in 1946 and here’s a picture of the managing director’s wife Mrs Wetton presenting the valuable prize to me on the Well Meadow in Bridgnorth. You don’t get prizes like that nowadays.” And if you didn’t know, Gold Flake is a brand of cigarette. Tweet Click to the right of the main image to move through the gallery.
