About 200 classic vehicles revved into action near Shrewsbury in aid of Severn Hospice.

The vintage motors were on show yesterday at Attingham Park as part of the third Classic Vehicle Rally.

Hundreds of people turned out to see the wide variety of rare and unusual automobiles parked up and on display in front of the main house.

Among some of the cars in attendance was a rare Alvis TA14 Tickford drop head coupe believed to be one of only 26 remaining in the world.

Other highlights included Terry Leach, from Shawbirch, who brought along a 1919 Shepperton bodied coach, the only one in existence, Derek Evans from Wellington made an appearance with his 1967 Ford Mutt, which saw service in Vietnam, and Gabrielle Napier, from Canada, hit the right note with a Rolls Royce 20HP, from 1927, which featured an on-board record player.

The cars came in from across the area throughout the morning and travelled around the Shropshire countryside before lining up on the lawns outside Attingham House.

David Sear, chair of trustees for Severn Hospice and event organiser, said: “It’s a real privilege to be allowed to park the vehicles in such a prestigious location in front of the main house.

“We would like to thank the National Trust and all the staff and volunteers at Attingham Park for their continued support with the event.”
