31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a woman in Shrewsbury.

The man was detained by police in connection with an incident on July 13 in which a 43-year-old woman was assaulted close to the Kingsland toll bridge.

He has since been released on bail while investigations continue.

Police said the woman was approached by a man at about 11.20pm as she was about to get into her car. He asked for a cigarette light and then indecently assaulted her before running off.

The woman was not seriously hurt but was left frightened and distressed, police said.

Detectives hunting the attacker released an e-fit picture of the suspect in the hope it would lead to more information.

They described the incident as a ‘serious, unprovoked incident’ and that they were anxious to trace the offender.
