About 150 people are expected to pack into a Shrewsbury pub for a night of Britpop nostalgia featuring stars of the 1990s indie scene.

The Four Crosses in Bicton is set to turn back the clock on August 17 for a performance from Dodgy ahead of their appearance at the V Festival at Weston Park, near Shifnal, the next day.

And organisers have now announced the band, who are most famous for their hit Staying Out For the Summer, will be joined at the gig by the former lead singer of The Bluetones Mark Morriss, who will be the support act.

Before the live performances, Dodgy’s drummer Math Priest will be hosting a pop quiz in the pub.

It will be the band’s second gig at the Shrewsbury pub, following a sell-out performance there in October last year.

This year’s gig has been organised by Dodgy fan Elliot Howells, from Bicton.

As a thank you, the group recorded a special 40th birthday video for Mr Howells’ wife Eleanor in May, singing a version of The Turtles’ Elenore.

Mrs Howells said all of the tickets for the gig had nearly gone.

“Last time it sold out completely and we had a few extra turning up, wanting to get in. It is about 150 capacity,” she said.

“It is just like it was last time – it is nearly sold out.”

She said she and her husband had got to know the band after chatting to them last year about her husband’s Dodgy tattoo.

The band rose to fame in 1992 and were together for seven years. In that time they sold more than one million records worldwide and released three albums.

Following their Shrewsbury gig the band will head to V Festival at Weston Park.

They will join headliners The Stone Roses and The Killers at the music festival which is taking place on August 18 and 19.

Tickets for Dodgy in Shrewsbury are £15 in advance. For more information visit http://www.dodgyology.com

hope it's as good as last time - awesome live band. Live music in Shropshire deserves some support too!

Ed

Adam

Marg

It was so good last time. See you down the front.

Shaun

It's all true, last year was immense, a really, really good gig at a cracking local venue, only downside being the taxi ride back into town.

This year, we get a music quiz and Mark Morriss for an extra £2.50 - sweet.

Big Ron

This is tremendous! I've a great affection for Dodgy, In A Room is an absolute classic, with Mathew Priest's Keith Moonesque drumming. Can't wait for the gig, if it's half as good as last year it'll be amazing. To hear that Mark Morriss is now supporting too is the icing on the cake :)

Dodgy lover!

I've loved Dodgy for years, can't believe they are playing a pub in Shrewsbury. I'll be seeing them at the V festival.

Colin

Saw them the last time they played the four Crosses, it was a great night. Love the new album.

Kev

Things are really changing for Shrewsbury, at last we're getting some really good gigs.

Kath

Ed

The new album is even better.

Great night last time, but wish it was in the town centre.

Elliot

It's true the town centre would be better for access, but there are few venues to choose from and I certainly couldn't afford what Theatre Severn charge. The Four Crosses is a really good venue with excellent staff and it works really well for this type of event. It's walkable from town and if a couple of people share a taxi, then it's only a couple of quid :)

Shrewsbury music on the up? Just need the Buttermarket to realise that there's an audience out there for other types of music besides 'dance'...
