A care home near Telford has closed suddenly and an arrest made over allegations of neglect following a critical inspection by the Care Quality Commission, it was revealed today.

Dozens of elderly people have been moved to new homes after inspectors found a catalogue of failings at Cedars Care Home in Albrighton.

Dirty sheets, soiled toilets, and inadequate care records were among the concerns raised during the visit on July 6.

And a formal notice of breach of contract has been served on owners Albrighton Care Homes Ltd after they failed to co-operate with an adult protection investigation launched by Shropshire Council.

West Mercia Police spokesman Richard Ewels today said: “There is an ongoing investigation into neglect issues at the home. One person has been arrested and given police bail while enquiries continue.

“A second person has also been interviewed.”

The home, which caters for up to 42 elderly people and dementia patients, closed on Sunday.

Concerns had been raised at the home before, with inspections carried out in March and April.

“We found that the health and welfare of people living in this service was not being protected,” the report states.

“The provider had failed to ensure that the care staff were competent to administer medicines safely.”
