More than 4,000 people took advantage of the sunshine to enjoy a huge free family event in Telford.

The fifth Telford and Wrekin Culture Fest was held at the recently named Queen Elizabeth II Field in Telford Town Park Arena on Saturday.

Six hours of entertainment were lined up with an Olympic theme to celebrate the London Games. The festival featured music, dance, sport and the creative arts.

There was also the chance for people of all ages to experience a wide range of leisure activities.

Entertainment included Telford Community Choir and Breathe the Beat Dance showcase.

The day began with the Be More Active Fun Run which included 12 members of staff from Telford & Wrekin’s Fostering Team.

They were joined by foster carers in a bid to raise awareness of fostering in the borough.

Councillor Arnold England, cabinet member for leisure and wellbeing, said: “Culture Fest is an event that year on year gets impressive public support.

“We are very happy that the sun finally came out for the day and that so many people across the borough were able to take part in the fun run and the variety of other activities that were on offer.”

Information stands were also available during the day for visitors to gain advice and information on a range of council services.

Councillor Liz Clare, cabinet member for adult social care, said: “This event provided a fantastic opportunity for those council services that need additional support to be promoted.

“One of the information stands focused on fostering in Telford and Wrekin.

“We are looking for foster carers from all walks of life to look after children in the borough.

“Foster carers have a vital role to play in giving children in care the best possible chance in life.”
