Antique collectors were delighted to welcome daytime television star David Dickinson to Shropshire for the latest filming of his hit ITV show.
The celebrity was at Oswestry Leisure Centre on Saturday to film his popular antiques show Dickinson’s Real Deal. Show spokesman Mike Bawer said producers were delighted with the response from the public who called the show’s hotline to arrange for their items to be valued.
Hundreds of people turned out for the filming and Mr Dickinson chatted to members of the public and signed autographs.
Janet Griffiths, 61, of Oswestry, took along an Edwardian-style dress that had been sitting unused in a wardrobe at home for years.
She said: “I was filmed talking to the dealer Brenda and actually got to meet David too, and he came across as really nice and as he does on the television.
“I do watch the show so I thought I would take down the Edwardian dress and find out some more about it as I hadn’t got a clue what it might be worth.
“It turned out that it wasn’t worth an awful lot but Brenda said it would look nice on a mannequin in a shop or something like that. In the end I haggled with her and got the price up to £30 so I accepted.”
She added: “David popped in to give his expert advice during the discussions and we had to do a few retakes.”
David Hardy, of Park Hall, brought along his late mother’s Rolex watch and Chris Pearce, of Ruyton-XI-Towns came to the filming with a gold sovereign brooch.
Mr Bawer added: “David is very good with the general public and always makes sure everyone, especially the pensioners, get the best deal possible. He always looks after people’s interests.
“The show normally airs four to six months after it was filmed so perhaps the Oswestry shows should be on around Christmas time.”
