Leader: Queen's visit will be remembered for long time
In a summer of gloom and rain, there was for a few glorious hours an oasis of sunshine in Shropshire which coincided exactly with the greatest royal party the county has ever known.
Just a perfect day . . .
In a summer of gloom and rain, there was for a few glorious hours an oasis of sunshine in Shropshire which coincided exactly with the greatest royal party the county has ever known.
Up to 40,000 people were at Cosford for the Queen’s diamond jubilee pageant, an occasion which will linger long in the memory for all those involved, especially the thousands of Shropshire children who did Shropshire proud with their wonderful, colourful procession.
It was an honour and a privilege to have the Queen and Prince Philip here in this most auspicious and historic year of her reign.
For her part, she was able to see the world-beating RAF Museum at Cosford, which is in the premier league of attractions.
For Shropshire, a host of companies, organisations, and volunteers were able to show something of what they are all about amid the atmosphere of celebration. Shropshire was on show and all those involved did a splendid job.
When it comes to handing out praise, let us give due plaudits to the organising team who came up with an imaginative event which graced the occasion of Her Majesty’s 60th year on the throne.
It will be many, many years before there is ever anything like it again. And then there was the stupendous effort by all those schools to have their children in matching costumes.
Yesterday’s event was a triumph for everybody who played their part, and a treat for the thousands who went along to enjoy the spectacle.
Congratulations all round. It was a day of joy and celebration to brighten up this most gloomy of summers and leave a legacy of fond memories which will endure a lifetime.

I attended and it was a great day. The event was free to attend which meant it was accesible to those that are not always able to attend such festivals / high profile occassions. Lots of people must have worked hard to allow this event to happen and my kids loved every moment. The sporting entertainment to occupy the kids before the main event was a nice bonus. We should have more events like this, even just a sporting event for school children to get active without any special guests would be welcomed.

I attended the event and had a lovely day however, what I did find somewhat concerning was that even though I had been allocated tickets nobody asked to see my tickets upon entry. It is an RAF base not alone the occasion of the queen visiting. Where was the security as anybody who hadn't been allocated tickets could have got in? Shocking!

The only time you'd have been challenged, was if you tried to leave before they had finished waving and smiling. They didn't spend all that money for nothing. Hmmmm.

How much did it cost Colin..
