A county MP has written a personal letter to Shrewsbury’s England ace Joe Hart congratulating him after a solid Euro 2012 tournament and said he was a “shining example” for sportsmen across the world.
Shrewsbury & Atcham MP Daniel Kawczynski wrote the letter to the Manchester City and former Shrewsbury Town ace after the national team were dumped out of the Euros on penalties to Italy on Sunday night.
But despite England failing to progress, Mr Kawczynski said the whole town was ‘hugely’ proud of the international shot-stopper, who attended Meole Brace School.
The Conservative MP said he had been flooded with messages of support for Joe throughout the tournament.
In the letter, Mr Kawczynski said: “As MP for your home town of Shrewsbury, I wanted to write to you personally to say how hugely proud we all are of you.
“You’ll no doubt already have heard from your family how much the town got behind you during the recent Euro 2012 games, and I’ve been asked to pass on compliments from residents, businesses, and the wider community in and around Shrewsbury.
“The professionalism and commitment you demonstrated showed the rest of the world what true Shrewsbury grit and determination is, and you’re a shining example of how professional sportsmen and women should conduct themselves.
Hart admitted he was ‘devastated’ after England’s exit.
