Retired schoolteacher Judy Jones has been celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in style after winning a Marks & Spencer hamper in a Shropshire Star competition.

Judy, from Oakengates in Telford, said: “I’ve really enjoyed the Jubilee.

“I’ve had my flag out and my bunting up.

“I do admire the Queen, she has had all this extra work and she is 86. She’s quite remarkable.” And great-grandmother Judy, who is originally from Bridgnorth, is no slouch herself.

She is treasurer of the League of Friends at the Princess Royal Hospital, in Telford, and keeps active by doing voluntary work there in the cafeteria, as well as walking her two West Highland terriers.

She correctly answered a question in the Shropshire Star’s Jubilee preview supplement last month, asking which breed of dog was the Queen’s favourite.

Judy received her prize from the Marks & Spencer store in Shrewsbury’s Darwin Centre, from commercial manager Emma Cassidy.

She was accompanied by her sister Pat Pardoe.
