A cat has made a miraculous recovery after being found impaled on rusty metal railings.

The cat – nicknamed Spike by RSPCA staff – is being cared for at Walker and Wikeley Vets in Oakengates after being found impaled on a fence with a metal spike going right through his body.

The agonising cries of the male black and white cat were heard by a man in Wolverhampton at about 6pm on June 12. Spike was found at the bottom of a garden, crying out in pain.

RSPCA inspector Dawn Burrell received the emergency call. She said: “Spike was a pitiful sight and was very obviously in great pain when found.

He screamed when approached so I knew he would have to be sedated before any rescue could even be attempted. It was a huge relief to discover the spike had missed his internal organs however we knew the outcome was still quite unknown.

“Spike is a real fighter – we are all praying he will make a full recovery. I am also hopeful we can find his owners as I do believe him to be owned.”

Spike was not wearing a collar and isn’t microchipped. Call the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999 leaving a message for Inspector Dawn Burrell.
