Awards for Shropshire's fire service workers

Some of Shropshire’s most dedicated fire service employees have been honoured for their ‘bravery, courage and determination’ in the line of duty at the service’s annual award night.

Some of Shropshire’s most dedicated fire service employees have been honoured for their ‘bravery, courage and determination’ in the line of duty at the service’s annual award night.

Paul Raymond, chief fire officer for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service, hailed employees for their lifesaving work at Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury last night.

Firefighters received awards for acts of bravery and courage, campaigns in the community and long service.

Martin Richardson, who works as a firefighter at MOD Donnington and has served in Kosovo and Iraq, was presented with the High Sheriff’s Good Citizen’s Award by High Sheriff John Abram. He was praised for attending schools and colleges in Newport raising road safety awareness.

Ashley Brown, 31, and his wife Gemma, 25, received the Telent Charity Shield award for raising more than £34,000 for charity after their two-year-old son Cameron died following an asthma attack four years ago. They picked up their award with their sons Matthew, three, and Jason, who was born just a week ago.

Also receiving awards were Peter Langford and David Warwick, who are both based at Bridgnorth fire station and have both served as firefighters for 40 years.

And 11 firefighters received the Fire Service Long Service and Good Conduct Medal
