Shrewsbury Town’s promotion heroes will take an open-top bus parade in front of thousands of adoring fans on Sunday, delighted officials have confirmed.
The civic parade will set off from the Greenhous Meadow at 12.30pm before making its way through Shrewsbury town centre and fans from across Shropshire are expected to line the route.
The parade will pass along Roman Road, Longden Road and Coleham Head, before going over the English Bridge, up Wyle Cop and along High Street, Barker Street and to Frankwell.
The bus will reach the Guildhall at about 1pm and players and staff will stay aboard to celebrate with fans for about 15 minutes. The bus will then drive to Shirehall via Smithfield Road, Castle Street, Wyle Cop and Abbey Foregate.
The team will be guests at a civic reception hosted by Shropshire Council and Mayor of Shrewsbury Tony Durnell.
Shrewsbury Town manager Graham Turner said he hoped there would be a good turnout from supporters to mark the team’s promotion to League One.
“It is a great gesture from Shropshire Council and Shrewsbury Town Council to host this civic reception and parade for the club. To be able to go around Shrewsbury and celebrate our wonderful achievement with all our supporters will be a fitting end to a successful season,” he said.
“I hope many Shrewsbury Town supporters will come out to see the players, coaches and myself and make this another historic and enjoyable day in the club’s history.”
Keith Barrow, leader of Shropshire Council, said: “The players and staff at Shrewsbury Town deserve a huge amount of credit for this success, which is a wonderful boost for Shrewsbury and Shropshire in general.”
Frankwell Riverside short-stay car park will be closed to traffic on Sunday morning, but the main part of the car park will be open.
No road closures will be necessary for the parade.

Great news - Unfortunately won't be able to be there because will be on our way back from Wimbledon watching them play on Saturday as will quite a few who are going and staying over! Sad to miss it though!

Soooo a team which finished second (yes 2nd, they didn't win!) are being lauded by our council!
Our pool AND dominoes team actually WON the league but the council never arranged a bus ride for us, wonder how much this is going to cost Shropshire taxpayers?!

I wonder how much STFC bring to the local economy each year?
Spiffing
Are you kidding, look at the closures of Oteley Road!
The council had to pay for all those!
If you think that STFC bring money into the town then you are deluded, beers drunk in local pubs, meals eaten, shopping bought etc etc one week are missing the next week when they are away!

The road closures no longer happen and haven't for several seasons. I'm talking about the present and you have provided some examples which suggest that the football club probably helps to bring a good deal to the local economy each YEAR. Thanks.

This is a wind up,right? You surely cannot be serious.
Pool and dominoes????

HEROES, no no no. the fact that the Shropshire Star have used this word devalues its place in a county that contains so many real heroes, those that let us live a live in this country that allows us to go to football matches in safety, Heroes they are not.
They are workmen doing their jobs, they have come second not first in the division, after all football is a business, no longer do we have players that have come from the town itself how many of these guys live in the town. I fear very few.
They will no doubt get a big bonus , the sales of shirts , coats and jackets will boost the coffers of the club from all of those silly to purchase such items, but let’s not hear the word heroes, it poor English and not suitable for a football team who have been paid very well to get to where they are
rob
Why are they 'Heroes'? - do they do it all for
nothing then.
Soldiers in Afghanistan are heroes
twisting my melon
so you're only supposed to be a hero if you kill someone then are you....so many sour grapes in this county because people are so insecure that they feel the need to rubbish those who achieve something and rise above the crowd for a little while.....The last time people lined the streets to honour heroes were when the Irish Guards marched through, so they get their respect why can't sportsmen who achieve get their moment of glory.

The celebration was for the team's promotion to League 1 not for coming second in the league. They are not "heroes" in the true sense of the world but the number of people cheering them on the parade must speak for itself. Surely the feelgood factor is to be encouraged in the current climate! Sour grapes for sure!
