An heroic soldier killed in a bomb blast in Afghanistan was today being laid to rest near his childhood home.

An heroic soldier killed in a bomb blast in Afghanistan was today being laid to rest near his childhood home.

Friends, family and colleagues were due at the full military funeral of Captain Rupert Bowers, 24, at St Bartholomew's Church in Moreton Corbet, near Shawbury.

Capt Bowers, of 2nd Battalion, The Mercian Regiment, was killed by a roadside bomb in Helmand Province on March 21. He leaves wife Victoria, his newly-born son Hugo, parents Patrick and Jane and sister Juliet.
