There is still no reopening date for Market Drayton Swimming Pool, a month after it was shut to fix a leak in a pipe.

The pool closed on March 12 and was only due to be closed for two weeks.

Shropshire Council spokesman Laura Owen said today: "We are confident that we will be able to estimate an opening date early next week. No further problems have been found, it is just a process of elimination to find the exact location of the leak."

The initial work involved a leaking pipe under the main pool which was haemorrhaging 50,000 litres of water a day.

Council leisure facilities manager Jamie Stafford said the problem had been an issue for five or six years but had got worse in the last 12 months.

Council workers spent four days draining the water, the first time the pool had been emptied since it was built 15 years ago.

The teaching pool is still open.
