A report outlining controversial drug rehabilitation plans which was due to be discussed at a key Shropshire Council meeting today has been withdrawn from the agenda, it has been revealed.

Members of the council's safe and confident communities scrutiny committee were due to discuss a report from the authority's GHB/Synthetic

Drugs Misuse Task and Finish Group at Shirehall this afternoon.

But the report, which looks at why the use of the drug had become so prevalent in Oswestry, has been withdrawn to allow further work on recommendations, council chiefs confirmed.

Among several recommendations in the report was for the council's cabinet to agree to 'provide free places for gym, swimming and aerobics to people in rehabilitation throughout facilities across Shropshire'.

But leader Councillor Keith Barrow said the task and finish group has now been asked to do more work on the recommendations before they go to cabinet.

The plans for free gym and pool use had been condemned by critics.
