23 jobs at new Baschurch store

A controversial new convenience store set to create 23 jobs in Baschurch is expected to open by Christmas with building work beginning in May, developers revealed today.

More than 700 residents signed a petition opposing plans for a Spar shop in Shrewsbury Road claiming it would sound a death knell for existing traders and cause an increase in traffic.

But their campaign ended in defeat last week when a Shropshire Council planning committee approved the scheme.

Today developers who won the planning battle insisted it will bring benefits to the community.

Bosses at Lancroft Developments said the shop will have eight full-time and 15 part-time staff.
