Specialists search River Severn for missing Simon Rothwell
Monday 20th February 2012, 10:59AM GMT.
A specialist rescue group has been drafted in to sweep the River Severn in Shrewsbury as the search for a missing 36-year-old man continues.
Specialists from the Severn Area Rescue Association were out on the water yesterday in an attempt to find Simon Rothwell, of Monkmoor, Shrewsbury, who has been missing for more than two weeks.
Boat teams searched a stretch of the river close to the Castle Walk and weir for several hours without success.
Mr Rothwell was last seen early on February 3 when a taxi dropped him off in Abbotts Road after a night out. The alarm was raised at about 7.45am the same day when some of his personal belongings were found on Castle Walk, near the river.
Richard Ewels, a spokesman for West Mercia Police, said: “The police did ask Sara teams to carry out further searches along the River Severn yesterday in connection with the search for Mr Rothwell.
“The search for Mr Rothwell is continuing and we have renewed the appeal for any information which may assist the investigation.”
Mr Rothwell is white, 5ft 8in, stocky, with short brown hair. He was wearing a dark jacket, beige cords and black boots. Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
More than 1,300 people have joined a Facebook group in an attempt to find him. Friends and family members posted messages on the website last night thanking the search teams.
