Breeder’s shock after bull price hits £126,000

Monday 20th February 2012, 10:59AM GMT.

A cattle breeder from Mid Wales whose pedigree Limousin bull sold at auction for more than three times what was expected setting a UK record has spoken of his shock.

Glyn Vaughan, of Dolcorsllwyn Farm, near Machynlleth, said he was overjoyed that his bull had sold for the record price of £126,000.

Mr Vaughan said he had hoped Dolcorsllwyn Fabio would sell for £40,000 in Carlisle on Saturday.

But he was shocked when the bidding climbed to £126,000, beating the previous record sale price of £105,000.

“I just couldn’t believe that he had sold for that amount of money – he has always been in great shape and I knew there was always something special about him but I never ever thought he would sell for that amount of money,” he said.

“And to reach the UK record was just unbelievable, I would have been happy if Dolcorsllwyn Fabio had just topped the Welsh record, which was set four years ago with the sale of another of my animals for £33,600.

“I think I’m very lucky because it was two of the wealthiest breeders in the country that wanted him. It was just an excellent day and I’m just really pleased with what was raised.”

He added that the bull had been sold to Alan Jenkinson, of Penrith, Cumbria.
