Telford care home warned of risks to elderly
Monday 13th February 2012, 10:59AM GMT.
A care home in Telford criticised for leaving its residents unwashed for two months may still be putting the elderly ‘at risk’, a new report revealed today.
St George’s Park was taken over by HC-One following a damning inspection report last year. And the results of its latest spot check last month by the Care Quality Commission have just been made public
Inspectors said improvements had been made but the home was still failing to meet key criteria.
Bosses at St George’s Park today said staff were ‘extremely disappointed’ after the latest report.
The home, on School Street in St Georges, cares for up to 71 people and was examined on January 18 after HC-One, took over last November.
The report said staff practices were ‘not consistent’ and care plans lacked supporting information, which inspectors said meant the needs of residents were not met safely or effectively all the time.
It said inspectors had seen positive changes, but went on to add that the home did not ‘fully protect’ residents against the risks associated with the unsafe use and management of medicines.
The report said: “Although the home has introduced a number of auditing tools to enable them to monitor the quality and the safety of the service provided they are not yet fully effective and as a result people may be at risk of receiving unsafe care.”
A spokeswoman for HC-One said: “Whilst a wide ranging improvement programme has already been implemented at the home, we fully understand the CQC’s concerns and what matters now is that we regain their confidence by continuing to improve the standard of care the home provides, in line with the report.”
She added: “As the new owners, we have already made a number of improvements.”
