More snow on way to Shropshire, say forecasters

Shropshire was on rush-hour snow alert today as forecasters warned that the journey home could be hit by a fresh artic blast.

Up to 10cms (4ins) of snow is expected to fall across parts of the UK later today with some expected in the region. Telford & Wrekin Council says its gritters were ready.

A spokesman for the council said: "Our gritters will grit for snow later this morning.

"The forecast is for either rain or sleet and then snow this afternoon and drivers need to be aware that salt can take time to melt snow and ice and we urge road users to drive very carefully."

Shropshire Council's gritters were also ready to go out later today.

The Met Office warned: "While there is uncertainty regarding where the heaviest and most persistent snow will fall, accumulations of up to about 10cm (4ins) are possible in the worst affected regions.

Temperatures will reach just 1C (33F) with rain turning to snow across parts of England and Wales. The Met Office has also warned that rain will fall on very cold roads, freezing instantly, forming a layer of ice.
