Monday 6th February 2012, 6:59PM GMT.

A search was under way today for a man from Shrewsbury who has been missing for three days.

Simon Rothwell, who is 36 and comes from the Monkmoor area, was last seen at 12.30am on Friday when a taxi dropped him off in Abbotts Road after a night out.

At about 7.45am on the same day, several of his personal belongings were found in the Castle Walk area close to the River Severn. Since he went missing, police have launched a search for him but there have been no sightings since his disappearance, which was described as ‘most out of character’.

Police are now urging anyone with information about where Mr Rothwell could be to come forward and have issued a picture of him and a description of what he was last seen wearing as officers stepped up their attempts to try to track him down.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: “Simon’s family and friends are becoming increasingly concerned for his welfare and we are keen to find him as soon as possible.

“His disappearance is most out of character.

“Simon is described as being white, 5 feet 8 inches tall, as having a ‘stocky’ build and short brown hair. When he was last seen Simon was wearing a dark coloured jacket, beige cords and black boots.

“Anyone who has seen Simon, or who knows where he is, is urged to contact police officers in Shrewsbury as soon as possible on the non-emergency number 101 or 0300 333 3000.”
