Light now shines on hands of Shrewsbury Market Hall clock
Monday 6th February 2012, 4:59PM GMT.
The clock above Shrewsbury Market Hall is working again after refurbishment work on it was completed.
The hands on the face of the building’s clock, between Shoplatch and Claremont Street, were not ticking or lit up last week, causing confusion as people could only see the numbers illuminated.
But the clock has now been officially restarted and lit up, with the rest of the scaffolding due to come down in the next four to six weeks after refurbishment work which began in May was completed.
Bosses said maintenance work to the building provided the opportunity to repair the clock face and improve the illumination.
Kate Gittins, site facilities manager at the market hall, said today: “The Market Hall clock tower is one of the town’s most recognisable features and we are delighted to be able to restore this historic timepiece to its former glory.
“There was a slight delay between the illumination of the numbers and the hands but we had to make sure the scaffolding was entirely out of the way before the clock could be officially restarted.”

A picture of the clock, which is the subject of the story, would have been good.

This ugly clock looked better covered up. Heartbreaking to think of the beautiful building they knocked down to build this dump in the 70s.
