Shropshire braced for snow as temperatures plummet

Shropshire was on amber alert today as the county braced itself for snow.

Parts of the county are expected to see as much as five centimetres of snow as temperatures plummet to-1C (30F) this afternoon.

Temperatures dropped to -3C (26F) during the night.

The Met Office said the cold snap would continue in Shropshire today with the first flakes of snow set to fall later this afternoon and into the early evening.

Rain is also expected from 9pm on. Forecasters said temperatures across the county tonight would not fall below zero with lows of 2C (28F).

Tomorrow highs will reach 6C (21F).

An amber alert, warning people to ‘be prepared’ was also in place for parts of Scotland, Wales and north-west England.
