Views on Market Drayton ring road bid are mixed

Friday 3rd February 2012, 10:59AM GMT.

Residents have given a mixed response to plans for a £2.5 million ring road in Market Drayton just days after officials backed it.

More than 30 years after the idea was first mooted, Shropshire Council has applied for permission to create the road between Stafford Street and Phoenix Bank to form a new junction with High Street and Great Hales Street. It also wants to build 47 houses

The plan will be discussed by the council’s north planning committee in Wem on Tuesday.

Supporters say it will help regenerate the area, but critics say it is a waste of money.

Is this road expected to be a dual carriageway? If not, your stock photo is a little misleading.

A waste of MY money. After 30 years is it really needed – NO. Spend the money on bringing tade back to the town centre, not diverting around the back doubles.
