Shropshire braces itself for snow as temperatures fall
Friday 3rd February 2012, 10:59AM GMT.
Shropshire was bracing itself for snow as temperatures across Shropshire today plummeted to -8C (17.6F) – the coldest night of the winter.
Weather experts are predicting the county could see up to 5cms of snow tomorrow afternoon as the cold snap continues.
The coldest temperatures were recorded in Shawbury and Newport last night, with both seeing lows of -8C.
Nationally, the lowest temperature was recorded at Chesham in Buckinghamshire which saw a low of -11C (12.2F) at 5am.
Michael Lawrence, a forecaster for the Met Office, said: “It was a cold one last night and in Shropshire there was anything between -5C and -8C. Nationally, it was the coldest night so far this year.”
He said that while temperatures had dropped further in Newport this morning and remained at -8C in Shawbury, they were expected to rise throughout the day.
