Man charged over racial abuse of Shrewsbury Town star

A 29-year-old football supporter has been charged with racially abusing Shrewsbury Town star Jermaine Grandison during a League Two clash with Northampton Town, police today revealed.

The man, from Northamptonshire, was arrested on suspicion of carrying out a racially aggravated public order offence on January 2 during a match with bottom-of-the-league Northampton Town at Shrewsbury’s Greenhous Meadow on Oteley Road.

The man was bailed but returned to Shrewsbury Police Station last night where he was charged with a racially aggravated offence.

Richard Ewels, a spokesman for West Mercia Police, said: “He was bailed to appear at Shrewsbury and North Shropshire Magistrates Court in Shrewsbury on February 16.”
