Culina workers’ jobs in balance as major contract cut
Thursday 2nd February 2012, 10:59AM GMT.
Up to 70 workers’ jobs hang in the balance after a major client’s contract was cut back at Shropshire-based food and drink industry transport giant Culina, it has emerged today.
The logistics company has its headquarters beside the Muller dairy in Market Drayton.
The firm said staff at its Stafford site were likely to be affected by the changes, with no jobs at risk in Shropshire.
Debbi Hutt, from Culina said the potential job losses were sparked by cutbacks at a key client, who the company are refusing to name.
She said: “It’s all to do with the Stafford site. We had a client who was making cutbacks so now we are trying to consult with staff about the impact.
“We are trying to redeploy as many as we can but we will have to lose up to 70 jobs in Stafford. It doesn’t impact on any of our other sites.
The news comes weeks after Muller announced 55 job cuts – the bulk from the Market Drayton site.
Muller is currently in talks to take over Britain’s biggest fresh milk supplier Robert Wiseman Dairies.
Culina Logistics Limited has more than 2,300 employees at nine centres.
