Telford Steam Railway man’s wedding back on track
Wednesday 1st February 2012, 2:45PM GMT.
A man who had his legs crushed in an accident at Telford Steam Railway today revealed he has battled back to health in time to walk down the aisle next month.
Paul Hughes, chairman of the railway attraction in Horsehay, underwent eight hours of emergency surgery after the accident last July.
His legs were crushed by a piece of railway line which fell from the station’s hand powered crane.
But now seven months on, Mr Hughes is looking forward to marrying his fiancee Julia Owen on March 3 at Sheriffhales Church.
He said his speedy recovery was down to the use of ‘external fixaters’ fitted to both legs.
Doctors at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire told him he was the first person to have them fitted to both legs at the same time and otherwise he would have been put in plaster for six months.
