Villagers’ search for Alethea Taylor ends
Monday 30th January 2012, 10:59AM GMT.
The search for 63-year-old Alethea Taylor, who went missing from her home near Ludlow more than a week ago, has been abandoned by villagers.
Scores of volunteers were out in force in Orleton on Saturday knocking on the doors of every home and checking sheds and outbuildings.
Police are continuing to investigate Mrs Taylor’s disappearance but residents have called off their search.
Mrs Taylor was last seen on the morning of January 19 by her husband John before he left for work.
Diane Harris, one of the villagers who has co-ordinated the rescue operation every day since Mrs Taylor’s disappearance, said locals had exhausted their search of the area.
She added leaflets were sent around the village on Friday advising residents of plans to search private property.
She said: “We have exhausted the area. We feel we have searched it thoroughly and in some cases double checked places, and farmers know their land and if there is anywhere she could be found.”
