Icy blast brings snow to Shropshire
Friday 27th January 2012, 10:59AM GMT.
Snow fell across Shropshire today as a Siberian blast gripped the region amid warnings the big freeze is on its way and could last well into February.
A dusting of snow fell on high ground on the Long Mynd and south Shropshire hills as temperatures dipped below freezing.
And forecasters warned the cold snap could be set to stay for the next week at least as the mild winter gives way to a blast of icy air from Siberia.

Temperatures are expected to fall to -3C (26F) by Tuesday in Telford with tomorrow night likely to see -2 (28F) across the region.
The Met Office issued a severe weather warning of ice this morning for motorists travelling on untreated roads in Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England after temperatures dipped overnight.
Charlotte Bone, a spokeswoman for Telford & Wrekin Council, said gritters were out across the borough at 6pm yesterday and 3.30am today.
The Met Office warned: “Icy stretches are expected to form on untreated surfaces, especially in places affected by showers.
“The showers will fall as snow above about 250 metres, but there may be temporary slush deposits to lower levels. The public should be aware of possible travel disruption.”
Tonight wintry showers across England and Wales will generally die out and temperatures in Shropshire will hover around 3C (37), according to the Met Office.
