Oswestry car park yobs face seizure of their vehicles
Thursday 26th January 2012, 10:59AM GMT.
Police today vowed to seize cars from young motorists gathering on a supermarket car park in Oswestry if they continue to cause anti-social problems.
The warning follows a string of complaints from residents whose homes overlook Morrisons’ car park in Station Road.
Excessive noise including loud music, engines being revved and people racing round the one-way system are among the complaints which residents have raised.
There have also been reports of moped riders doing wheelies around the car park.
Since September 27, more than 20 complaints have been logged and police are now urging the drivers and riders to show more consideration.
Community Support Officer Hannah Bishop, from the Oswestry Town West Local Policing Team, said: “This is late night noise which is disturbing people living nearby, including young children trying to sleep. It’s not just weekends. This is happening on various days of the week, usually between 9pm and 1am.”
She said the local policing team and response officers would be monitoring the situation, taking tough action where necessary.
“People causing further problems will be spoken to and sent advisory letters. If they fail to heed the advice, they risk having their cars seized under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act,” she added.
“We will continue to work with residents to overcome this anti-social behaviour.
“If people do make a complaint, we would urge them to try and provide registration numbers for the offending cars.”
